LENT: A Season of Preparation for All Ages

2/1/2010 12:00:00 AM

The Season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17.  You are invited to share a meal at 5:30 PM, then make your way into the sanctuary for a worship service beginning at 6:30 PM.  Through the season, Wednesday night lessons will continue for all ages.

From February 24 to March 24, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM adults are invited to attend a Lenten Study with Pastor Sherry, who also encourages young adults to join the group.  The study, entitled Knowing God's Triune Story, is written by PC(USA) pastor and author, Michael Lindvall.  Some of you may remember that Lindvall is the author of a story entitled Christmas Baptism that was read here at Eastminster during the Advent season.  A summary of the study says this:

It is common knowledge in the church that the Trinity is made up of God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  As Presbyterians, our task is to tell the whole story of God, to praise Him in His Trinitarian completeness. But how can three separate entities be classified as one?  And how does our understanding of the Trinity affect our relationship with God?  With the 2010 Lenten study "Knowing God's Triune Story: The Moderator's 2010 Lenten Study" you will get a better understanding of the oneness of the Trinity, why God became human, and why God is three persons, not three individuals.

This study has been highly praised by PC(USA) Moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow who encourages Presbyterian churches across the country to unite in offering this to our congregations as part of our spiritual discipline in preparation for Resurrection Day.

As our children and youth prepare for Easter, it is important that they also understand the events that lead up to this day of celebration we call Easter.  To do this, the stories of Jesus' last days will be shared through rotation lessons including games, creative cooking, science and music.  The children and youth will learn of Jesus' triumphal entry, the Last Supper, his prayer and arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, and ultimately, his crucifixion on the cross.

These classes for children and youth will also be offered each Wednesday night from 6:30 - 7:30 PM with the exception of Wednesday, March 17 when the class for this age group will not meet because of Spring Break.
